From Foster Youth to Comedy Star: Tiffany Haddish Inspires the Next Generation at Laugh Factory Comedy Camp

More than 60 young people recently prepared to take the legendary Laugh Factory stage as part of the 40th graduating class of its Comedy Camp—an inspiring program that uses laughter, mentorship and performance to help youth discover the power of their voices.

Established in 1986, the Laugh Factory Comedy Camp has served more than 2,500 youth. Through comedy and creative expression, participants develop self-confidence, communication skills and public-speaking abilities that can support them far beyond the stage.

Tiffany Haddish Returns to Where Her Journey Began

Among the camp’s most celebrated alumni is comedian, actress and She Ready Foundation founder Tiffany Haddish.

Tiffany attended the program while navigating the foster care system as a teenager. Comedy became more than entertainment—it gave her a place to express herself, strengthen her confidence and imagine new possibilities for her future.

Years later, she returned to the Comedy Camp to spend time with this year’s participants, share words of encouragement and help serve lunch. Her return offered the young performers a powerful reminder: their present circumstances do not have to determine where their stories will lead.

Giving Young People a Platform to Shine

During the graduation ceremony, participants were invited to perform on the same Laugh Factory stage that has welcomed some of comedy’s most recognizable names.

Graduates were also set to receive the same pay as professional comedians appearing at the club—recognition that their creativity, courage and hard work have real value.

The program’s former mentors include comedy legends such as Richard Pryor, Robin Williams, George Carlin, Chris Rock, Dave Chappelle, Rodney Dangerfield and George Lopez.

While some Comedy Camp graduates have pursued careers in entertainment, others have continued into medicine, law and many different professions. Their journeys show that success does not follow a single path. What matters is that young people are given the encouragement, tools and opportunities they need to discover their own.

Turning Personal Experience Into Purpose

Tiffany’s journey from foster youth and Comedy Camp participant to acclaimed entertainer and advocate reflects the heart of the She Ready Foundation’s mission: to inspire, protect and provide resources to youth impacted by foster care.

She Ready Foundation works to ensure that young people feel seen, valued and supported. From providing proper luggage and essential resources to creating opportunities for mentorship, education and personal development, the Foundation helps youth move forward with dignity—and with the confidence to dream beyond their circumstances.

The achievements of this year’s Comedy Camp graduates remind us what can happen when a young person finds a safe space, a supportive community and a platform for their voice.

To every graduate: keep speaking, keep dreaming and keep showing the world that you are ready.
